can hardwork work beat intelligence? (Discussion)

it is said that for competitive exams like iit a sharp mind as well as good amount of hardwork is needed but can a student who really works leave behind a student who has a sharp mind and also works hard

surely why cant a person with hard working nature can beat a person with intelligence bcz in compititive exams it is the hard work that will be counted
